Music at Saltus

Music is an international language that transcends national barriers and unites us all.

At Saltus we believe in providing a warm, welcoming environment in which students can build their musical skills and grow into confident, cultured young adults. Music is a vibrant and bustling department within school, walking around either campus you are likely to hear instrumental tuition, a jazz ensemble rehearsing for a performance in our purpose-built rehearsal room, catch the lower primary hand bell group or one of our two orchestras rehearsing. Whether it is 8.00am or 8.00pm you are bound to hear music-making at Saltus, and with over ten musical ensembles, pupils of all ages and abilities are able to make the most of the opportunities available.

We are proud to be a centre of excellence, offering tuition of the highest standard and a wide variety of outstanding ensembles to suit all ages, styles and abilities. Students are encouraged to fulfill their academic and musical potential; a gift they can enjoy for the rest of their lives.

Within this section we hope it will give you a real sense of what it is like to study music at Saltus School – the atmosphere of dedication and support that we cultivate, and of the creative collaboration that occurs between our pupils, teachers and visiting artists.

Our music curriculum begins in the Foundation Year developing right the way through to Graduate years allowing pupils to become deeper, more independent learners, inquisitive and creative. We encourage all pupils to work to our ethos, working as individuals and in groups. Pupils develop their ability to listen, to appreciate a wide variety of music and to make judgments about musical quality. With dedicated music classrooms in lower primary and upper primary and the Bill Duncan Music Suite in the secondary school, the music department has the facilities to support the musical development of all students.
