Performing Arts at Saltus

Saltus is renowned for its vibrant and successful Performing Arts Department.

As a centre for excellence, the department is a hive of activity with rehearsals, formal performances and external events. Opportunities to perform are encouraged, ranging from curriculum work in Performing Arts assemblies and community outreach events by one of our many instrumental ensembles, to playing a part in one of the larger scale productions that take place during the School Year. In addition the department can often be found highlighting events and student work through its twitter and YouTube accounts.

Numerous annual events take place in the performing arts calendar from Christmas performances at Lower and Upper Primary to the Secondary Department’s concerts and School Production. The highlight of the year for many is the Ruth Henderson Memorial Concert which brings together all three campuses and students from Foundation to Saltus Graduate Years.

In the Secondary Department, curriculum work for Music and Drama are on display throughout the year, with live devised pieces and scripted works in drama, recorded compositions and live performances in music.

Opportunities exist for students to become involved in the areas of technical performance; clubs are run for technical theatre (sound and lighting) and students are encouraged to become involved in other areas of stagecraft including costume, make-up, production, stage management and backstage for our many events.

As audience members students are encouraged to see live amateur and professional performances throughout the year. For a number of years we have run trips for performing arts students to travel to the USA and Canada in order to see professional productions to support their academic courses.

As you can see the Performing Arts Calendar is a busy one, involving many students in a fun and engaging way and it is often this element that draws former students back with fond memories of their time spent at Saltus. Recent news and events are shared on the school social media pages.  Please take the time to explore what the department has to offer.
